What Is Trading? Types, How to Start (Pakistan, India, US, UK) & Halal or Haram – Beginner’s Guide 2026

Trading Pakistan, India aur poori dunya mein paison se mutaliq sab se zyada search kiye jane wale topics mein se aik hai — aur sab se zyada ghalat samjha jane wala bhi. Social media par log bare munafe ke screenshots dikhate hain, lekin bohat kam log batate hain ke trading asal mein kya hai, is ki kitni qismein hain, aap ke mulk mein kaun si qanooni hai, aur Islam mein kaun si halal ya haram hai. Is guide mein hum sab kuch aasan alfaaz mein A se Z tak samjhate hain.

Mukhtasar khulasa
  • Trading ka matlab hai koi cheez (shares, currency, sona, crypto) khareed kar bechna aur price ke farq se munafa kamana.
  • Bari qismein: stock trading, forex, commodity, crypto, futures, options aur binary options.
  • Pakistan mein mehfooz aur qanooni tareeqa: SECP-licensed broker ke zariye PSX par shares khareedna.
  • Leverage use karne wale zyada tar aam traders paisa haar jate hain — pehle seekhein, thore se shuru karein.
  • Islami nuqta-e-nazar (mukhtasar): halal shares ki spot trading sharait ke saath jaiz; binary, futures, options aur leverage wali forex aksar ulama ke nazdeek na-jaiz.

Trading kya hai?

Trading financial cheezon ko khareedne aur bechne ka naam hai taake price ke upar neeche hone se munafa kamaya ja sake. Agar aap kisi company ka share Rs 100 mein khareedein aur baad mein Rs 120 mein bech dein, to aap ka munafa Rs 20 fi share hai (fees aur tax se pehle). Agar price Rs 90 ho jaye aur aap bech dein, to Rs 10 ka nuqsan.

Traders aam taur par cheez ko thore waqt ke liye rakhte hain — chand minute se le kar chand hafte tak — aur charts, khabron aur market ke mood par nazar rakhte hain. Ye cheez company ka share, currency, sona ya tel, cryptocurrency, ya in ki price se juda hua koi contract ho sakti hai.

Trading ki qismein

1. Stock (share) trading

Stock exchange par listed companies ke shares khareedna aur bechna — jaise Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), India ka NSE/BSE ya New York Stock Exchange. Share khareedne ka matlab hai aap aik asli business ke chhote se hisse ke malik ban gaye.

2. Forex trading

Forex ka matlab hai aik currency ko doosri ke muqable mein trade karna, jaise EUR/USD ya USD/PKR. Lekin aam logon ko online jo “forex” milti hai wo zyada tar leverage wale CFDs hote hain — aap ko currency kabhi milti hi nahi, aap sirf udhaar paison se price ke farq par daao lagate hain. Isi liye forex bohat risky hai aur ulama ko is par aitraz hai.

3. Spot trading

Spot trading mein cheez abhi ki price par khareedi jati hai, poori payment hoti hai aur cheez foran (ya normal settlement mein) mil jati hai. Apne paison se shares khareedna ya money changer se dollar ke badle rupay lena spot transactions hain.

4. Futures trading

Futures contract aik muahida hai ke koi cheez aage ki kisi tareekh par tay shuda price par khareedi ya bechi jayegi. Aaj na cheez di jati hai na poori qeemat. Zyada tar traders delivery lete hi nahi — expiry se pehle contract band kar ke sirf farq lete hain. Is mein margin (leverage) bhi hota hai.

5. Options trading

Option khareedne wale ko haq milta hai — zimmedari nahi — ke wo aik tay price par cheez khareede (call) ya beche (put). Is ke liye fees (premium) di jati hai. Ye bohat complicated hain aur zyada tar options khareedne wale ke liye bekaar ho kar khatam ho jate hain.

6. Binary options

Binary mein sirf aik sawal hota hai: price aik khaas waqt par upar hogi ya neeche? Sahi ho to tay raqam jeet, ghalat ho to poori raqam khatam. Isi wajah se regulators ise jua kehte hain. UK ke FCA ne 2 April 2019 se aam logon ko binary options bechne par mustaqil pabandi laga di.

7. Commodity trading

Sona, chandi, kacha tel, kapas, gandum waghera ki trading. Pakistan mein ye Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (PMEX) par hoti hai jo SECP regulated hai — lekin PMEX ke zyada tar products futures contracts hain.

8. Crypto trading

Bitcoin, Ethereum jaisi cryptocurrencies ki khareed o farokht. Crypto ki price aik din mein 10% ya zyada upar neeche ho sakti hai. Crypto exchanges bohat zyada leverage wale futures bhi dete hain jahan aksar beginners apna paisa ganwa dete hain.

Trading ke andaaz

  • Day trading: aik hi din mein trade kholna aur band karna.
  • Scalping: seconds ya minutes ki tez trades.
  • Swing trading: chand din ya hafte rakhna.
  • Position trading: mahino tak rakhna, investing ke qareeb.

Pakistan mein trading kaise shuru karein (step by step)

Pakistan mein rehne walon ke liye sab se wazeh qanooni raasta stock market hai. PSX par shares SECP se licensed brokers ke zariye trade hote hain aur aap ke shares aap ke naam par CDC mein mehfooz rehte hain.

  1. Pehle seekhein: PSX ki investor awareness guide parhein aur chand hafte kaghaz par practice karein.
  2. SECP-licensed broker chunein: PSX website par brokers ki official list mein naam check karein. Mashhoor brokers mein AKD Securities, Arif Habib Limited, JS Global Capital, Topline Securities aur KASB Securities shamil hain.
  3. Online Sahulat Account kholein: sirf CNIC chahiye. March 2026 mein SECP ne is ki limit Rs 10 lakh se barha kar Rs 30 lakh kar di aur mukhtalif brokers ke saath aik aik Sahulat Account ki ijazat de di.
  4. Paise jama karwayein apne bank account se broker ke client account mein (kabhi kisi ke zaati account mein nahi).
  5. Broker ki trading app download karein aur live prices dekhein.
  6. Thore se shuru karein: mazboot, Shariah-compliant companies (maslan KMI-30 index wali) ke chand shares khareedein.
  7. Record rakhein capital gains tax ke liye aur CDC statement check karte rahein.

Tafseeli guide ke liye hamara PSX beginner’s guide parhein. Overseas Pakistani Roshan Digital Account ke zariye PSX mein invest kar sakte hain.

Pakistan ke liye warning

April 2025 mein SECP ne awam ko un online platforms se khabardar kiya jo baghair ijazat forex, commodities, options aur doosri satta-numa trading karwate hain. Facebook, YouTube aur WhatsApp par advertise hone wali forex aur binary apps aam taur par Pakistan mein licensed nahi hotin, aur kuch ghalat hone par aap ko koi qanooni tahaffuz nahi milta.

Pakistan mein crypto: Virtual Assets Act 2026 ne PVARA ko mustaqil regulator bana diya hai. Baghair PVARA licence crypto exchange chalana jurm hai, is liye sirf PVARA ki official list wale providers use karein.

India mein trading kaise karein

  • Stocks: SEBI-registered broker (Zerodha, Groww, Upstox, Angel One, ICICI Direct, HDFC Securities) ke saath demat aur trading account kholein aur NSE/BSE par trade karein.
  • Forex: Indian residents sirf Indian exchanges (NSE, BSE, MSE) par currency derivatives trade kar sakte hain — zyada tar rupee wale pairs jaise USD/INR, EUR/INR, GBP/INR, JPY/INR.
  • Offshore forex apps ghair qanooni hain: margin forex ke liye bahar paisa bhejna FEMA ke tehat mana hai. RBI ghair-mujaz platforms ki Alert List jaari karta hai.
  • F&O se hoshiyar: SEBI ki studies ke mutabiq taqreeban 10 mein se 9 aam traders futures aur options mein paisa haar gaye.

Broker kya hota hai aur kaise chunein

Broker aap aur market ke darmiyan licensed wasta hai. Aap exchange se seedha share nahi khareed sakte; broker aap ka order lagata hai, account rakhta hai aur commission ya spread leta hai.

  • Licence: apne mulk ki authority (SECP, SEBI, SEC/FINRA, FCA) se regulated ho.
  • Client money ka tahaffuz: aap ka paisa aur shares broker ke apne paison se alag rahein.
  • Saaf fees: commission, spread aur withdrawal charges wazeh likhe hon.
  • Achhi app aur support: mazboot platform aur aasan withdrawal.
  • Khatre ki ghanti: jo broker roz ya mahana “guaranteed” munafe ka wada kare wo taqreeban yaqeenan fraud hai.

Trading software aur apps

  • Broker apps (PSX): har licensed Pakistani broker ki apni app hoti hai.
  • TradingView: stocks, forex aur crypto ke muft charts.

Kaun si trading halal hai aur kaun si haram?

Islam imaandari ki tijarat ki hoslaafzai karta hai. Quran kehta hai: “Allah ne tijarat ko halal aur sood ko haram kiya” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:275). Lekin aaj har “trading” asli tijarat nahi. Ulama teen bare masail dekhte hain: riba (sood), gharar (had se zyada ghair yaqeeniyat) aur maysir/qimar (jua), aur ye usool ke jo cheez aap ke paas nahi wo na bechein.

Khatre aur fraud se bachein

  • Leverage ka nuqsan: 1:100 leverage par 1% ulti chaal aap ka poora deposit khatam kar sakti hai.
  • Signal groups aur “account manager”: paid WhatsApp/Telegram groups aur login maangne wale aksar paisa le kar ghaib ho jate hain.
  • Naqli munafe ke screenshots: demo account ko bhi asli dikhaya ja sakta hai.
  • Trading ke naam par Ponzi scheme: har mahine 10–20% fixed munafa khatre ki bari nishani hai.
  • Udhaar le kar trading: kabhi qarz, committee ya kiraye/fees ke paison se trading na karein.

Disclaimer: Ye article sirf aam maloomat ke liye hai, financial, investment ya deeni fatwa nahi. Trading mein paisa doobne ka bara khatra hota hai. Faisle se pehle apne mulk ke qawaneen check karein aur licensed adviser aur mustanad aalim se mashwara karein.

Trading is one of the most searched money topics in Pakistan, India and across the world — and also one of the most misunderstood. Social media is full of people showing screenshots of big profits, but very few explain what trading actually is, which types exist, which ones are legal in your country, and which ones are halal or haram in Islam. This beginner’s guide explains everything in simple language, from A to Z.

Quick summary
  • Trading means buying and selling an asset (shares, currencies, gold, crypto) to profit from price changes.
  • Main types: stock trading, forex, commodity, crypto, futures, options and binary options.
  • In Pakistan, the safe and legal route is buying shares on the PSX through an SECP-licensed broker.
  • Most retail traders who use leverage lose money — start small and learn first.
  • Islamic view (in short): spot trading of halal shares is allowed with conditions; binary options, futures, options and leveraged forex are not permissible according to most scholars.
Aasan alfaaz mein (Roman Urdu)

Trading ka matlab hai koi cheez — shares, currency, sona ya crypto — sasti khareed kar mehngi bechna aur price ke farq se munafa kamana. Pakistan mein sab se mehfooz aur qanooni tareeqa PSX par SECP-licensed broker ke zariye halal companies ke shares khareedna hai. Binary trading jua hai aur haram hai, futures/options aur leverage wali forex ko bhi aksar ulama na-jaiz kehte hain. Pehle seekhein, phir thore paison se shuru karein.

What Is Trading?

Trading is the buying and selling of financial assets with the aim of making a profit from price movements. If you buy a company’s share at Rs 100 and sell it later at Rs 120, your profit is Rs 20 per share (before fees and tax). If the price falls to Rs 90 and you sell, you lose Rs 10.

Traders usually hold an asset for a short time — from a few minutes to a few weeks — and focus on charts, news and market sentiment. The asset can be a company share, a currency, a commodity such as gold or oil, a cryptocurrency, or a contract linked to the price of any of these.

Trading vs Investing: What Is the Difference?

TradingInvesting
Time periodMinutes to weeksMonths to years
GoalProfit from short-term price movesGrow wealth through business growth and dividends
EffortDaily chart watching and quick decisionsResearch once, review a few times a year
RiskHigh — many beginners lose moneyLower when diversified and long-term

For most beginners, long-term investing in good companies is far safer than short-term trading. Many people start with investing and only move to trading after they understand the market well.

Types of Trading Explained

1. Stock (share) trading

Buying and selling shares of listed companies on a stock exchange — for example the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), India’s NSE and BSE, or the New York Stock Exchange. When you buy a share, you own a small part of a real business.

2. Forex (foreign exchange) trading

Forex means trading one currency against another, such as EUR/USD or USD/PKR. It is the largest financial market in the world. Most online “forex trading” offered to retail traders is actually done through CFDs with leverage — you never receive the currency, you only bet on the price difference using borrowed money. This is why forex is very risky, and it is also why most scholars have reservations about it (see the halal section below).

3. Spot trading

In spot trading the asset is bought and paid for at the current price and delivered immediately (or within the normal settlement period). Buying shares with your own money, or exchanging dollars for rupees at a money changer, are spot transactions. Spot crypto means actually buying the coin, not a contract on its price.

4. Futures trading

A futures contract is an agreement to buy or sell an asset at a fixed price on a future date. Neither the asset nor the full price is exchanged today. Most traders never take delivery — they close the contract before expiry to capture the price difference. Futures are usually traded with margin (leverage), so gains and losses are magnified.

5. Options trading

An option gives the buyer the right — but not the obligation — to buy (call) or sell (put) an asset at a set price before a certain date. The buyer pays a fee called a premium. Options are complex and most of them expire worthless for the buyer.

6. Binary options

Binary options ask one simple question: will the price be above or below a level at a certain time? If you are right, you win a fixed payout; if you are wrong, you lose your whole stake. Because of this all-or-nothing design, regulators call them gambling. The UK’s FCA permanently banned the sale of binary options to retail consumers from 2 April 2019, describing them as gambling products dressed up as financial instruments.

7. Commodity trading

Trading gold, silver, crude oil, cotton, wheat and other raw materials. In Pakistan this is done on the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (PMEX), which is regulated by the SECP — but most PMEX products are futures contracts.

8. Crypto trading

Buying and selling cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Crypto prices can move 10% or more in a single day. Crypto exchanges also offer futures with very high leverage, which is where most beginners lose their money.

Trading styles

  • Day trading: opening and closing trades on the same day.
  • Scalping: very fast trades lasting seconds or minutes.
  • Swing trading: holding for a few days or weeks to catch a price swing.
  • Position trading: holding for months, close to investing.

How to Start Trading in Pakistan (Step by Step)

For people living in Pakistan, the clearest legal route is the stock market. Shares are traded on the PSX through brokers licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and your shares are held in your name at the Central Depository Company (CDC).

  1. Learn the basics: read the PSX investor awareness guide and practise with paper trades for a few weeks.
  2. Choose an SECP-licensed broker: check the broker’s name in the official broker list on the PSX website. Well-known brokers include AKD Securities, Arif Habib Limited, JS Global Capital, Topline Securities and KASB Securities, among many others.
  3. Open a Sahulat Account online: the SECP’s simplified Sahulat Account for small investors needs only your CNIC. In March 2026 the SECP raised its investment limit from Rs 1 million to Rs 3 million and allowed one Sahulat Account with each of several brokers.
  4. Deposit money from your own bank account into the broker’s client account (never into a personal account).
  5. Download the broker’s trading app and log in to see live prices.
  6. Start small: buy a few shares of stable, Shariah-compliant companies (for example, those in the KMI-30 index) and track them.
  7. Keep records for capital gains tax and check your CDC account statement regularly.

For a detailed step-by-step walkthrough, read our PSX beginner’s guide.

Overseas Pakistanis can invest in the PSX through a Roshan Digital Account, which many brokers support.

Warning for Pakistan: In April 2025 the SECP cautioned the public against unauthorised online platforms offering forex, commodities, options and other speculative trading without its approval. Online forex and binary apps advertised on Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp are generally not licensed in Pakistan, and if anything goes wrong you have no legal protection.

Crypto in Pakistan: the Virtual Assets Act 2026 made the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) a permanent regulator. Operating a crypto exchange without a PVARA licence is a criminal offence, so only use providers that appear on PVARA’s official licensed list.

How to Start Trading in India

  • Stocks: open a demat and trading account with a SEBI-registered broker such as Zerodha, Groww, Upstox, Angel One, ICICI Direct or HDFC Securities, and trade on the NSE or BSE.
  • Forex: Indian residents may only trade currency derivatives on recognised Indian exchanges (NSE, BSE, MSE) through SEBI-registered brokers — mainly pairs involving the rupee, such as USD/INR, EUR/INR, GBP/INR and JPY/INR, plus a few approved cross-currency pairs.
  • Offshore forex apps are illegal: sending money abroad for margin forex trading is not permitted under FEMA. The RBI publishes an Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms — check it before using any app.
  • F&O caution: SEBI studies have found that around 9 out of 10 individual traders in equity futures and options lost money.

What Is a Broker and How to Choose One

A broker is a licensed middleman between you and the market. You cannot buy shares directly from the exchange; your broker places the order for you, holds your account and charges a commission or spread.

  • Licence: regulated by your country’s authority (SECP, SEBI, SEC/FINRA, FCA etc.).
  • Client money protection: your money and shares must be kept separate from the broker’s own funds.
  • Clear fees: commission, spread, account and withdrawal charges written in plain language.
  • Good app and support: stable platform, local support and easy withdrawals.
  • Red flag: any broker promising “guaranteed” daily or monthly profit is almost certainly a scam.

Which Trading Is Halal and Which Is Haram?

Islam encourages honest trade. The Quran says: “Allah has permitted trade and forbidden riba (interest)” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:275). But not everything called “trading” today is real trade. Scholars look at three main problems: riba (interest), gharar (excessive uncertainty) and maysir/qimar (gambling), along with the rule that you should not sell what you do not own.

Type of tradingGeneral ruling (most scholars)Main reason
Buying and selling shares of halal companies (spot)Permissible with conditionsYou own a real share of a lawful business
Shares bought on margin / short sellingNot permissibleInterest-based loan; selling what you do not own
Forex with leverage (CFDs, swaps)Not permissible according to most scholarsNo real possession, interest-linked leverage, swaps
Spot currency exchange (hand to hand)PermissibleImmediate exchange as required by hadith
Binary optionsHaramPure gambling — win all or lose all
Futures contractsNot permissibleBoth price and delivery are deferred; sale of what is not owned
Options contractsNot permissibleNot a valid Islamic contract; speculative
Crypto (spot)Scholars differQuestions about its nature and heavy speculation
Crypto futures / leverageNot permissibleSame problems as futures and margin trading

We explain each ruling with the Quranic verses, hadith and scholarly resolutions in our detailed guide: Is Trading Halal or Haram? Forex, Binary, Futures & Crypto in Islam. For personal cases, always ask a qualified mufti.

Risks and Scams to Avoid

  • Leverage losses: with 1:100 leverage, a 1% move against you can wipe out your whole deposit.
  • Signal groups and “account managers”: paid WhatsApp/Telegram groups and people who ask for your login usually disappear with the money.
  • Fake profit screenshots: anyone can make a demo account look like a real one.
  • Ponzi schemes disguised as trading: fixed monthly returns of 10–20% are a classic warning sign.
  • Borrowing to trade: never trade with loans, committee money or money you need for rent, fees or food.

Disclaimer: This article is for general education only and is not financial, investment or religious advice. Trading involves a high risk of losing money. Check the rules in your country and speak to a licensed adviser and a qualified scholar before making decisions.
