“Kya trading halal hai ya haram?” — trading app kholne se pehle Musalman sab se zyada yahi sawal poochte hain. Seedha jawab ye hai: ye is par munhasir hai ke aap kya trade kar rahe hain aur contract kaise kaam karta hai. Asli khareed o farokht Islam mein pasandeeda hai, lekin aaj ke bohat se products — binary options, leverage wali forex, futures aur options — mein sood, jua ya aisi cheez ka sauda shamil hai jo aap ke paas hai hi nahi. Is guide mein har qism ko Quran, sahih ahadees aur bare ulama ki qarardaadon ki roshni mein samjhaya gaya hai, us Hanafi fiqh ke mutabiq jis par Pakistan aur South Asia ke zyada tar Musalman amal karte hain.
- Halal (sharait ke saath): Shariah-compliant companies ke shares apne paison se khareedna aur rakhna; haath dar haath currency ka tabadla.
- Haram: binary options — ye jua hain.
- Na-jaiz (aksar ulama): futures, options, margin/short selling, leverage wali forex aur CFDs, crypto futures.
- Ulama mein ikhtilaf: spot cryptocurrency.
- Apne zaati masle ke liye hamesha mustanad mufti se poochein.
Har hukm ke peeche Islami usool
1. Tijarat halal, sood (riba) haram
“Allah ne tijarat ko halal kiya aur sood ko haram kiya.” — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:275
Jis trading mein sood par qarz shamil ho — jaise margin account ya raat ke swap charges — wo is mumaniat mein aati hai.
“Sharab, jua, buton ke thaan aur faal ke teer sirf shaitani gandagi hain, is liye in se bacho taake tum kamyab ho.” — Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:90
4. Gharar (had se zyada ghair yaqeeniyat) wala sauda mana
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) se riwayat hai ke Rasoolullah ﷺ ne kankri phenk kar sauda karne aur gharar wale saude se mana farmaya. — Sahih Muslim 1513
— Sunan Abi Dawud 3503 (sahih)
6. Sona, chandi aur paisa haath dar haath
Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit (RA) ne riwayat kiya ke Nabi ﷺ ne sone ke badle sona, chandi ke badle chandi, gandum ke badle gandum, jau ke badle jau, khajoor ke badle khajoor aur namak ke badle namak bechne se mana farmaya magar barabar barabar aur haath dar haath, aur jis ne zyada diya ya liya us ne sood ka maamla kiya. — Sahih Muslim 1587. Ulama is ko aaj ki currencies par bhi lagu karte hain: paise ka paise se tabadla foran hona chahiye.
Kya stock trading halal hai?
Share khareedne ka matlab aik asli company ke chhote hisse ka malik banna hai, is liye share trading halal ho sakti hai. Islami finance ke mashhoor Hanafi aalim Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani ye sharait batate hain:
- Company ka asal business halal ho — conventional bank, insurance, sharab, jua waghera na ho.
- Agar company side par sood ka len den kare to shareholder us par na-pasandeedgi zahir kare (maslan annual general meeting mein).
- Aamdani paak karein: dividend ka jo hissa sood se aaya ho wo sadqa kar dein.
- Agar company ke paas sirf cash ho aur koi asli asaase na hon, to us ke shares sirf face value par khareede beche ja sakte hain.
International Islamic Fiqh Academy (Qarardad 63, 1992) ne bhi kaha ke broker se sood wale qarz par shares khareedna (margin) na-jaiz hai, aur short selling — jo shares paas nahi wo bechna — na-jaiz hai.
Pakistan ke liye amli mashwara: PSX Shariah-compliant indices jaise KMI-30 aur KMI All Shares Islamic Index jaari karta hai. In lists se companies chunna achha aaghaz hai.
Shares ki day trading?
Bohat se ulama halal shares ko usi din khareedne bechne ki ijazat dete hain jab tak sauda asli ho (apne paison se), margin aur short selling na ho. Lekin business ko samjhe baghair jua jaisi musalsal satta-bazi na-pasandeeda hai. Shak ho to mufti se poochein.
Kya forex trading halal hai ya haram?
Currency ka tabadla khud halal hai agar foran, haath dar haath ho — jaise licensed money changer se riyal ke badle rupay lena. International Islamic Fiqh Academy (Qarardad 102, 1998) ne currencies ki udhaar farokht ko na-jaiz qarar diya.
Masla aaj ki zyada tar online retail forex ke tareeqe mein hai:
- Leverage qarz hai: broker aap ko deposit se 100 guna tak qarz deta hai — trade se mashroot qarz, jise ulama sood ka darwaza samajhte hain.
- Swap: raat bhar ke rollover charges sood hain.
- Qabza nahi: zyada tar platforms CFD dete hain — currency kabhi aap ki milkiyat mein nahi aati.
- Jua jaisi satta: bohat thore waqt mein price ki simt par daao.
In wajoohat se aksar ulama, jin mein bohat se Hanafi dar-ul-ifta shamil hain, leverage wali online forex ko na-jaiz kehte hain. “Islamic” ya “swap-free” account raat ka sood to hata dete hain, lekin leverage aur CFD ka dhancha baqi rehta hai, is liye wo khud ba khud halal nahi ho jate.
Kya binary trading halal hai?
Nahi — binary options haram hain. Aap aik raqam is par lagate hain ke tay waqt par price upar hogi ya neeche; sahi hone par tay munafa, ghalat hone par sab kuch khatam. Na koi cheez, na milkiyat, na asli tijarat — sirf shart. Ulama ise qimar (jua) kehte hain jise Quran ne Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:90 mein haram kiya, aur is mein gharar bhi hai jo Sahih Muslim 1513 mein mana hai. Hanafi fatawa ke mutabiq “halal” ya “Islamic” naam wale binary accounts se bhi hukm nahi badalta.
Ghair-Muslim regulators bhi mutafiq hain: UK ke FCA ne 2019 mein binary options par pabandi lagate hue inhein “financial instrument ke libaas mein jua” kaha.
Kya spot trading halal hai?
Spot trading mein qeemat foran ada hoti hai aur cheez foran (ya normal settlement mein) mil jati hai. Ye aam bai ke sab se qareeb hai aur aam taur par jaiz hai agar cheez khud halal ho — jaise halal company ke shares, poori qeemat de kar liya gaya asli sona, ya mauqe par currency ka tabadla.
Fiqh Academy ki Qarardad 63 ke mutabiq jin commodity saudon mein delivery aur payment foran ho wo jaiz hain, aur udhaar delivery wale na-jaiz.
Kya futures aur options halal hain?
Futures: futures contract mein qeemat aur delivery dono aage ki tareekh tak mo’akhar hoti hain, aur zyada tar contracts baghair asli tabadle ke band kar diye jate hain. Fiqh Academy (Qarardad 63) ne aise contracts ko “dono iwazon ke mo’akhar hone ki wajah se” na-jaiz kaha, aur mukhalif contract se band kiye jane wale saudon ko bunyadi taur par na-jaiz qarar diya. Mufti Taqi Usmani ki bhi yahi raaye hai. Ye hadith “jo cheez paas nahi wo na becho” ke bhi khilaf hai.
Options: isi qarardad mein hai ke options contracts shariat ke kisi sahi aqd mein nahi aate, is liye in ki trading bhi na-jaiz hai.
Ye hukm stock futures, commodity futures (commodity exchanges ke zyada tar products), currency futures aur crypto futures sab par lagu hota hai.
Kya crypto trading halal hai?
Cryptocurrencies ke baare mein ulama mukhtalif raaye rakhte hain. Is par ittefaq hai ke crypto futures, leverage aur margin trading na-jaiz hain. Pakistan mein ye bhi yaad rakhein ke sirf PVARA-licensed providers ko qanoonan kaam ki ijazat hai.
Halal aur haram trading: khulasa table
| Qism | Hukm (aksar ulama) | Wajah / daleel |
|---|---|---|

| Leverage forex / CFDs | Na-jaiz (aksar ulama) | Leverage qarz, swap, qabza nahi, satta |

| Spot crypto | Ikhtilaf | Haisiyat aur satta |
| Crypto futures / leverage | Na-jaiz | Futures aur margin wale masail |
| Poori qeemat de kar asli sona | Halal | Foran tabadla aur qabza |
Halal tareeqe se trading (aur investing) kaise karein
- Apne mulk ke licensed broker ke saath baghair margin wala account rakhein.
- Research ka waqt na ho to Shariah-compliant mutual funds par ghaur karein.
- Binary apps, signal groups aur fixed munafe ka wada karne walon se door rahein.
Ye article bare ilmi idaron aur Hanafi ulama ki aaraa ka aam khulasa hai, fatwa ya financial advice nahi. Halaat mukhtalif hote hain — apne masle ke liye mustanad mufti se aur maali faislon ke liye licensed adviser se mashwara karein.

Aksar pooche jane wale sawal
Kya Islam mein trading haram hai?
Kya Pakistan mein forex trading halal hai?
Mauqe par currency ka tabadla halal hai. Lekin CFD platforms par leverage wali online forex ko aksar ulama na-jaiz kehte hain, aur ye platforms SECP se licensed bhi nahi.
Kya binary trading haram hai?
Ji haan. Binary options jua ki aik shakal hain jise Quran ne wazeh taur par haram kiya (5:90).
Kya Islamic (swap-free) forex account halal hain?
Swap hatane se sirf aik masla hal hota hai. Leverage aur CFD ka dhancha baqi rehta hai, is liye aksar ulama inhein bhi halal nahi samajhte.
Kya PSX trading halal hai?
PSX par Shariah-compliant companies ke shares apne paison se khareedna upar di gayi sharait ke saath aam taur par jaiz hai. Margin, short selling aur futures se bachein.
Kya gold trading halal hai?
Poori aur foran payment de kar asli sona khareedna halal hai. Futures ya CFD ke zariye online gold trading jahan kuch deliver nahi hota, aksar ulama ke nazdeek na-jaiz hai.
“Is trading halal or haram?” is one of the most common questions Muslims ask before opening a trading app. The honest answer is: it depends on what you trade and how the contract works. Real buying and selling is encouraged in Islam, but many modern products — binary options, leveraged forex, futures and options — contain interest, gambling or the sale of things you do not own. This guide explains each type in the light of the Quran, authentic hadith and the resolutions of leading scholars, following the mainstream Hanafi understanding followed by most Muslims in Pakistan and South Asia.
- Halal (with conditions): buying shares of Shariah-compliant companies with your own money and holding them; spot currency exchange hand to hand.
- Haram: binary options — they are gambling.
- Not permissible (majority view): futures, options, margin/short selling, leveraged forex and CFDs, crypto futures.
- Scholars differ: spot cryptocurrency.
- Always confirm personal cases with a qualified mufti.
Halal companies ke shares apne paison se khareedna aur rakhna jaiz hai (sharait ke saath). Binary trading jua hai, is liye haram hai. Futures, options, margin aur leverage wali forex mein sood, gharar aur “jo cheez paas nahi us ka sauda” shamil hota hai, is liye aksar ulama inhein na-jaiz kehte hain. Crypto ke baare mein ulama ki raaye mukhtalif hai.
The Islamic Principles Behind Every Ruling
1. Trade is allowed, riba (interest) is forbidden
“Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest.” — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:275
Any trading that involves borrowing on interest — such as margin accounts or overnight swap charges — falls under this prohibition. Allah also warns those who do not give up riba of war from Allah and His Messenger (Al-Baqarah 2:278–279).
2. Wealth must be earned through fair, mutually agreed trade
“O you who believe, do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly, but only by trade with mutual consent.” — Surah An-Nisa 4:29
3. Gambling (maysir) is forbidden
“Intoxicants, gambling, idols and divining arrows are only an abomination of Satan’s handiwork, so avoid them so that you may be successful.” — Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:90
4. No sale of excessive uncertainty (gharar)
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the pebble-throwing sale and the sale involving uncertainty (gharar). — Sahih Muslim 1513
5. Do not sell what you do not own
Hakim ibn Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet ﷺ about selling something he did not yet have. The Prophet ﷺ replied: “Do not sell what you do not possess.” — Sunan Abi Dawud 3503 (graded sahih)
6. Gold, silver and money must be exchanged hand to hand
Ubadah ibn as-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ forbade selling gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates and salt for salt except like for like, equal for equal, hand to hand, and whoever gives or takes more has dealt in riba. — Sahih Muslim 1587. Scholars apply this to modern currencies: when money is exchanged for money, the exchange must be immediate.

Is Stock Trading Halal?
Buying shares means owning a small part of a real company, so share trading can be halal. Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, one of the most respected Hanafi scholars of Islamic finance, explains these conditions:
- The company’s main business must be halal — not conventional banks, insurance, alcohol, gambling or similar.
- If the company deals in interest on the side, the shareholder should disapprove of it (for example at the annual general meeting).
- Purify income: the part of the dividend that comes from interest income should be given in charity.
- If a company holds only cash and no real assets, its shares may only be traded at face value.
The International Islamic Fiqh Academy (Resolution 63, 1992) also ruled that buying shares with an interest-based loan from a broker (margin) is not permissible, and that short selling — selling shares you do not own — is not permissible.
Practical tip for Pakistan: the PSX publishes Shariah-compliant indices such as the KMI-30 and the KMI All Shares Islamic Index, which screen companies for business activity and interest-based debt. Choosing from these lists is a good starting point.
What about day trading shares?
Many scholars allow buying and selling halal shares on the same day as long as the trade is real (with your own money), not on margin and not short selling. However, constant gambling-style speculation without any understanding of the business is discouraged. When in doubt, consult a mufti.
Is Forex Trading Halal or Haram?
Currency exchange itself is halal when it is done on the spot, hand to hand — for example changing riyals into rupees at a licensed money changer. The International Islamic Fiqh Academy (Resolution 102, 1998) ruled that deferred sale of currencies is not permissible.
The problem is how most online retail forex works today:
- Leverage is a loan: the broker lends you, say, 100 times your deposit — a loan tied to a trade, which scholars see as a doorway to riba.
- Swaps: overnight rollover charges are interest.
- No real possession: most platforms offer CFDs — you never own the currency, you only bet on the price difference.
- Speculation close to gambling: very short-term bets on price direction.
For these reasons, most contemporary scholars, including many Hanafi dar al-ifta, consider leveraged online forex not permissible. So-called “Islamic” or “swap-free” accounts remove the overnight interest, but scholars point out that the leverage and CFD structure still remain, so they do not automatically make it halal.
Is Binary Trading Halal?
No — binary options are haram. You stake an amount on whether a price will be up or down at a fixed time; if right you win a fixed payout, if wrong you lose everything. There is no asset, no ownership and no real trade — only a wager. Scholars classify this as qimar (gambling), which the Quran forbids in Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:90, and it also contains gharar, forbidden in Sahih Muslim 1513. Hanafi fatwas also state that binary accounts marketed as “halal” or “Islamic” do not change this ruling.
Even secular regulators agree: the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority banned binary options for retail consumers in 2019, calling them gambling products dressed up as financial instruments.
Is Spot Trading Halal?
Spot trading means the price is paid and the asset is delivered immediately (or within normal settlement). This is the closest form to a normal sale and is generally permissible if the asset itself is halal — such as shares of a halal company, physical gold paid for in full, or currencies exchanged on the spot.
The Fiqh Academy’s Resolution 63 also states that commodity transactions where delivery and payment are immediate are permissible, while deferred-delivery modes are not.
Are Futures and Options Halal?
Futures: in a futures contract both the price and the delivery are postponed to a future date, and most contracts are closed before delivery without any real exchange. The Fiqh Academy (Resolution 63) ruled such contracts not permissible “because of the postponement of the two elements of the exchange”, and said contracts that are simply closed out with offsetting contracts are essentially not permissible. Mufti Taqi Usmani holds the same view. It also conflicts with the hadith “Do not sell what you do not possess”.
Options: the same resolution states that options contracts are not permissible because they do not fit any valid Shariah contract, and trading them is therefore also not permissible. The Academy also ruled that buying and selling stock indices is not permissible, treating it as gambling.
This applies to stock futures, commodity futures (including most products on commodity exchanges), currency futures and crypto futures alike.
Is Crypto Trading Halal?
Scholars are divided on cryptocurrencies themselves. Some consider well-established coins a permissible digital asset if bought on the spot with your own money; others, including many scholars in Pakistan, discourage or forbid them because of uncertainty about their nature, extreme speculation and frequent use in fraud. What scholars agree on is that crypto futures, leverage and margin trading are not permissible for the same reasons as other futures. In Pakistan, also remember that only PVARA-licensed providers are legally allowed to operate.
Halal vs Haram Trading: Summary Table
| Type | Ruling (majority view) | Reason / evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Shares of halal companies (own money) | Halal with conditions | Real ownership of a lawful business |
| Margin trading | Not permissible | Interest-based loan (Al-Baqarah 2:275) |
| Short selling | Not permissible | “Do not sell what you do not possess” (Abu Dawud 3503) |
| Spot currency exchange | Halal | Hand-to-hand exchange (Muslim 1587) |
| Leveraged forex / CFDs | Not permissible (most scholars) | Leverage loan, swaps, no possession, speculation |
| Binary options | Haram | Gambling (Al-Ma’idah 5:90) and gharar (Muslim 1513) |
| Futures | Not permissible | Both counter-values deferred (IIFA Res. 63) |
| Options | Not permissible | Not a valid contract (IIFA Res. 63) |
| Index trading | Not permissible | Treated as gambling (IIFA Res. 63) |
| Spot crypto | Scholars differ | Nature of the asset and speculation |
| Crypto futures / leverage | Not permissible | Same as futures and margin |
| Physical gold bought with full payment | Halal | Immediate exchange and possession |
How to Trade (and Invest) the Halal Way
- Use a broker licensed in your country and an account without margin.
- Choose companies from a Shariah-compliant list (for example KMI-30 in Pakistan) or use a trusted screening app.
- Buy with your own money and do not short sell.
- Purify any interest-related part of your dividends by giving it in charity.
- Pay Zakat on your shares every lunar year according to the guidance of scholars.
- Consider Shariah-compliant mutual funds if you do not have time for research.
- Stay away from binary apps, signal groups and anyone promising fixed profits.
