With petrol close to Rs 400 per litre, many Pakistani families are asking whether it is time to switch to a hybrid. Locally assembled hybrid cars in Pakistan now include SUVs and sedans from Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Haval, MG and Chery, and they promise much better fuel average in city traffic. But prices jumped in July 2026 after the reduced sales tax on locally assembled hybrids ended in the 2026–27 budget.
This guide lists the main hybrid cars available in Pakistan, their latest known prices, typical fuel average, and the pros and cons of HEV and PHEV technology so you can decide whether a hybrid makes sense for you.
HEV vs PHEV: what is the difference?
- HEV (full hybrid): a petrol engine and an electric motor work together. The small battery charges itself while braking and driving; you never plug it in. Examples: Toyota Corolla Cross HEV, Honda HR-V e:HEV, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid.
- PHEV (plug-in hybrid): a bigger battery that you charge from a socket, giving a pure-electric range for daily short trips before the engine starts. Examples: Haval H6 PHEV, Chery Tiggo 7/8/9 PHEV, GWM Tank 500 PHEV.
- Mild hybrid: a small electric assist only; savings are limited.
If you have solar at home, a PHEV can be charged in the daytime for very little cost, which makes it especially interesting. See our guide on net metering vs net billing.

Popular hybrid models explained
Toyota Corolla Cross HEV
Assembled by Indus Motor, the Corolla Cross hybrid is the most popular hybrid in Pakistan thanks to Toyota’s reliability, resale value and wide dealer network. Its 1.8-litre hybrid system is tuned for smooth, quiet city driving.
Honda HR-V e:HEV
Honda Atlas’s HR-V hybrid offers a stylish design, a comfortable cabin and Honda’s e:HEV system, where the electric motor drives the wheels most of the time. Its price crossed Rs 1 crore after the July 2026 tax change.
Haval Jolion HEV and H6 HEV/PHEV
Sazgar’s Haval range brought feature-rich hybrid SUVs at competitive prices, with big screens, 360-degree cameras and driver-assistance features. The H6 PHEV adds plug-in charging for short electric-only trips.

Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, Tucson Hybrid and Santa Fe Hybrid
Hyundai Nishat offers hybrid options from a sedan to a large 7-seat SUV. The Elantra Hybrid is one of the few hybrid sedans, while the Tucson and Santa Fe hybrids suit larger families.
Kia, MG and Chery
Kia’s Sportage L HEV, MG’s HS hybrid and Chery’s Tiggo PHEV models add more choice in the Rs 1–1.6 crore range. Compare warranty, battery coverage and service network in your city before deciding.
Fuel average and running cost
Hybrids save the most in stop-and-go city traffic, where the electric motor does more of the work. On long motorway drives, the advantage is smaller.
| Car type | Typical city fuel average | Approx. fuel cost per 1,000 km* |
|---|---|---|
| 1.8L petrol sedan/SUV (non-hybrid) | 9–12 km/l | Rs 33,000–44,000 |
| Compact hybrid crossover (HEV) | 16–22 km/l (claimed/real-world varies) | Rs 18,000–25,000 |
| Large hybrid SUV (HEV) | 12–16 km/l | Rs 25,000–33,000 |
| PHEV charged daily at home | Much higher on short trips | Depends on charging and electricity rate |
*Using petrol at about Rs 398 per litre. Actual results depend on driving style, AC use and traffic.

FAQs
Which is the cheapest hybrid car in Pakistan?
Compact crossovers such as the Haval Jolion HEV and Toyota Corolla Cross HEV are among the lowest priced hybrids, at roughly Rs 90 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
Why did hybrid car prices increase in 2026?
The reduced sales tax on locally assembled hybrids ended under the 2026–27 federal budget, so companies raised prices from July 2026.
Is a hybrid worth it in Pakistan?
If you drive mostly in city traffic and keep cars for many years, the fuel savings can be significant. For low mileage, a petrol car may still be cheaper overall.
How long does a hybrid battery last?
Modern hybrid batteries are designed to last many years, and makers usually give a separate battery warranty. Check the exact terms with the dealer.
Do I need to charge a hybrid car?
No for HEVs, which charge themselves. Yes for PHEVs if you want to use their electric range.
